In this blog, we’ll be giving you our best 4 tips on how to get motivated to work out in order to increase your mental and physical health.
It is 2020 and a special and interesting year for most of us. Nobody would have thought that we would experience things like we do now. A global pandemic is part of our daily lives. Many people feel less motivated to work out or have a hard time finding a place to exercise due to most gyms being closed and the limitations set out by the authorities in the hope to stop the virus. This makes it harder to maintain a workout routine and thus might cause a motivation dip.
Working out from home during quarantine is a constant struggle and so many people may suffer from mental health problems because of our sedentary lifestyles and constraining conditions we face. As a result, it might be challenging to find the motivation to get up and start working out again. Depression may be a subsequent result simply because of our current state and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier soon with new outbreaks on the horizon. Read more about depression during the coronavirus pandemic here.
1. Realize the benefits of exercising
Despite negative notions towards workouts, it isn’t just a physical activity to engage in to lose weight. There are various, intrinsic benefits of exercising, such as making you feel good about yourself and potentially lifting you out of your depression.
While it may be seemingly easy to get in a depressed mindset, or have some measure of low motivation during this pandemic, exercise can give you the boost or the energy and motivation you will need to carry on. It may be a real struggle to start working out again, but once you actually start doing it, you’ll feel much better about yourself. In addition, working out helps you get rid of negative thoughts and gives you a momentary purpose that translates to pushing your body! It will literally make you feel better as it will release endorphins in your body, which cause you to feel positive and happy.
2. Find a workout you enjoy to get motivated
While working out in itself can be a real challenge, finding a workout that you enjoy doing can help you get your motivation back. Working out during the quarantine is challenging enough, but by finding a workout aligned with your interests, you’ll find it easier to start exercising. For instance, you may find yourself enjoying cardio exercises more than strength training. To find your motivation to work out during quarantine, you should start by doing short cardio exercises instead of pushing yourself to do exercises that you don’t necessarily enjoy. If you have some free weights and maybe a bench and resistance bands, you may enjoy even doing resistance training. The choice is individual and the benefits are universal.

3. Buy equipment and start to work out
Just because you’re stuck at home, doesn’t mean you can’t have the essential workout equipment to enhance your training experience. Many companies offer great (and affordable) package deals for equipment to get you going. By having the right essentials such as dumbbells, workout mats, or resistance bands, you get even more motivated to finish your exercises each day. You can easily turn your home into a gym, if that’s what will motivate you to embark on the road to make a daily workout fun again. Another pro is the fact that looking online at great deals for workout equipment is fun by itself and is invigorating to start the actual training.
You can also get yourself a sweet new workout outfit, to make doing exercises more fun. Whatever helps to lift your spirits and motivation!
4. Go easy on yourself
The last part of this list is essentially just to stop pressuring yourself to workout. The general fact is that the pandemic makes it a challenge for everyone’s mental health and it isn’t as easy to work out as it used to be. Primarily caused by being inside our homes all day and the closure of our gyms, many people are looking for alternative ways of working out. When you start again, just go easy on yourself and don’t set your goals too high. Get a good feeling and work from there. In addition, it also helps to work out with your favorite songs on your playlist, something that can provide you with an extra sense of motivation for your workouts.
